Dogecoin — the meme-based cryptocurrency that has had a run of success in recent months — is now on the cryptocurrency trading app Coinbase, marking a huge success for the joke-based cryptocurrency.

Is Dogecoin on Coinbase now?

Sort of. Coinbase Pro announced Tuesday that Dogecoin is now available on the Coinbase Pro where trading is allowed.

  • Trading for Doge will begin at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday.

However, Dogecoin will not be available on Coinbase.com or the Consumer mobile apps. There will be a separate announcement when, and if, that ends up happening, according to Forbes.

  • Coinbase Pro is a digital assets exchange website where people can exchange, well, digital assets, like cryptocurrency.

Dogecoin and Coinbase rumors

There have been rumors that Dogecoin would soon be available on Coinbase. According to CNBC, the cryptocurrency exchange app Coinbase said Dogecoin would be available in six to eight weeks.

Per MarketWatch, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said Coinbase has to improve its functionality before it can start allowing people to trade Doge.

The move is a big one for Dogecoin. Right now, most people use the Robinhood app for buying and selling Dogecoin. But Coinbase had about 43 million unique users in 2020, with 2.8 million of those users making transactions every month. This now opens Dogecoin up to a wider base of people.
